Sharing With Younger Generations 04.25.2011 I would like to share a short entry from a guest contributor:
This week I had the opportunity to introduce a granddaughter to the wonder of spring wildflowers. I told this three year old that we were going to see lots of flowers, but she was totally awed by the amount. Initially she tried not to step on any flowers, but the spring beauties were blooming right in the trail, so she finally had to give up! She wanted to "ring" the bluebells. She gently shook the stalk so that she could see the little bells ring. She listened for them too. I thought we might have to ring every bluebell in the woods before we could go home. We went twice this week. The first visit I introduced her to Dutchman's Britches. The second visit, she said, "Let's find pants."
And then there were the trees across the trail. What fun to climb over them! She always chose to climb over rather than go around. There was water flowing down the waterway, and we had to put our hands in and test that water at several points. The humped up dirt where animal burrows cross under the trail were of special interest. What an exciting world to explore! I am grateful that I can take my grandchildren to the same woods that I explored as a child.
