A PRAIRIE LANDS FOUNDATION PARK

Blog: This Week in the Woods

Bluebirds

Even in the heat, the woods and prairie reveal their best. Early morning hikers spotted several bluebirds greeting the morning while sitting on the fence-wires along the Bluestem Trail. Late afternoon and early evening are also great times to observe these jewels of the prairie as they feed on insects above the grasses.

Following the hike, eight young enthusiasts assisted in building birdhouses for installation along the trail in September. Sept. 24 is National Public Lands Day when volunteers are invited to help in the installation. Check back later on the website calendar for details.
